About the President
Professor, supervisor for Ph. D students, Zong Zhanguo, who graduated from the Department of Physics, Jilin University in 1973 and
has taught since then. He was appointed vice-president of Jilin Normal College in 1982 and president in 1996, and then president of Changchun University in 2004. He was regarded as one of the young experts for their prominent achievements in China, the senior expert with whom the central government keeps direct contact. He was granted with the special subsidy from State Council, and was the committee member of steering committee for the fundamental physics of colleges affiliated to the Ministry of Education, and the consultant of the Provincial Policy Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. He was entitled the National “May, 1st” Labor Medalist, and “Provincial Model Worker” twice. He was also the deputy general director of Jilin Provincial Physics Association, the representative of 10th Provincial People’s Congress，the representatives of 5th and 7th Provincial Congresses of the Chinese Communist Party. He has devoted himself to the higher-education for 35 years, covering optics, laser, quantum electronics, modern science & technology. The “Optics” he taught is regarded as the provincial excellent course. He was granted with the second national prize for teaching achievements three times, the first prize and special prize for provincial teaching achievements three times as well. The textbook “An Introduction to Modern Science and Technology” edited by him has been entitled “The National Excellent Textbook” and designated as the textbook of scientific and technological quality education for ordinary college students by the Ministry of Education, which is adopted by more than 100,000 students.
His scientific work focuses on materials science, chemistry and education. The 1st molecule ultraviolet pulse laser, constructed in 1973, filled the vacancy in China. He has also published more than 60 papers, and edited 14 textbooks. There are altogether 21 national and provincial research projects. Some have been accomplished; others are in process, including the projects sponsored by national science fund, science fund of education authority of the province, Provincial Authority of Science & Technology, Ministry of Education. In the contest of “The 100 Best Presidents in 2006”, organized by Forbes, professor Zong, was highly appreciated with the rank of No.4 voted by short text message and No. 5 voted over the internet.
